Carey was a fashion model. She's 5'10" tall, and was popular among famous American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren as well as others. Her father, who was a renowned scientist, who was awarded the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a renowned geologist. Carey was brought up across the globe because of her father's career. While she attended an institution called the University of Colorado, Carey began to model on the side. An agent from Ford's model agency in New York noticed her and was willing to assist. In the year 1980, she emigrated to France and briefly lived in Paris and Bordeaux but returned to New York in order to pursue an acting career. The model was featured on Vogue and Glamour cover. While she was modeling, she was a full-time student obtaining a major in literary studies at New York University. Following a few years she began to develop an interest in acting. She attended the Neighborhood Playhouse New York. In 1986, she got her first performance as a small part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. Her leisure time is spent in wind surfing, skiing, rock climbing and white water river rafting.
